New to the world of parenting, I found myself relying on family members to babysit when I wanted to go out with my husband. SittterCity allowed me to obtain information about her that I would have felt uncomfortable asking in person. It is not easy for me to ask someone if they have a criminal record or have irresponsible tendencies. It also allowed me to avoid asking about salary since the caregivers’ minimum hourly wages are posted in their profiles.

I liked that SitterCity.com is widely used throughout the country and that the babysitters rely heavily on feedback by the families who hire them. Nobody who is trying to make money wants a bad reputation on the internet. The sitters know that in order to make more money providing their service, they need to obtain excellent feedback.

In order to use the site, you first have to register. Although there is a fee, you can join on a free trial basis. If you decide the service is not for you, you can cancel within a week’s time without being charged. The process of registering was quick, and there was a template that allowed me to post my job with ease. In addition, I did not have to give my personal e-mail address to anyone, since the site has an internal messaging system, allowing its users to safely communicate with each other.

Besides wanting a caring and responsible babysitter, I wanted her (or him) to be local and to their own form of transportation. My husband and I did not want to worry about having to pick up a babysitter and then drop them off after we returned home. By typing in our zip code and indicating our transportation requirement, we were able to narrow down our search results. I was also able to see the individuals’ availability and years of experience.
